Network Technician I

Position Description:

Opportunity to become a meaningful part of a rapidly growing IT company based in El Paso, Texas that is committed to delivering the highest level of service to their Networking Services clients.  The right person for the position is one who demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, thrives on learning new ways to solve problems, collaborates with the team, and maintains high standards, values and principals when dealing with co-workers, customers and business partners.  An individual, who takes pride in their role and their contributions to the success of the organization, has an opportunity to advance to Network Technician II.

The Network Technician I is responsible for the installation and ongoing maintenance of servers and LAN/WAN networks according to policies and procedures. They must be able to plan, schedule and implement these procedures under limited supervision.  Above entry‐level technical capabilities with training and field experience in local and wide area networking, servers, and related hardware/software are required minimums.  

Critical functions include identifying the key components of a problem, analyzing information and data to discover the most effective solution and implementation of that solution. The right candidate can successfully minimize work flow disruptions and time wasters to complete high quality work within specified time frames. They must have the ability to learn quickly and grow their technical expertise while working under the direction of a more experienced Technician/Engineer or higher management.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in customer training related to the installation and maintenance of LAN/WAN networking environments, Servers, Exchange server, File/print servers, SQL Server etc. and related hardware/software. 
• Assist in preparing documentation on installation and maintenance procedures.
• Assist in testing local and wide area networking, servers and related hardware/software.
• Looks for additional sales opportunities with clients and communicates these opportunities to the sales department for quoting.   Work closely with sales in creating proposals by contributing technical and client related knowledge.
• Plan, schedule and perform project management tasks related to new installation and/or new projects and coordinates implementations with clients.
• Assists in performing certain consulting tasks such as reviewing the network overall and proposing changes that relates to improvements, security, setup, infrastructure, etc.
• Handles client training and documentation to ensure the client is comfortable and informed of the implemented solution and how it impacts their workflow.
• Perform monthly client reviews onsite or remotely.
• Plan and schedule the flow of maintenance tasks associated with the Makios PartnerSentry Managed Services and take care of implementation, remediation and escalation.
• Involvement in building and configuring servers such as domain controllers, file/print, database, email, and Internet access using detailed procedures.

Education/Qualifications:

• Knowledge of Microsoft Server operating systems and technology.
• Bachelor’s degree with course work in computer science or equivalent work experience.
• Successful completion of all in service training programs recommended.
• Certification of applicable Microsoft Certification tracts for the server/network tier.
• Knowledge of local and wide area networking and communications.
• Knowledge of Mailflow and server related troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of the networking hardware/software utilized.
• Word processing & spreadsheet skills.
• Follow through on all commitments to achieve results.
• Implements thorough and effective plans and applies appropriate resources to produce the desired results.
• Proficient in oral and written communications.
• Detailed tracking of all internal and external work performed.
• Manual dexterity and visual acuity required.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
