Ken Pivarnick

Ken Pivarnick

As an ex-DEA agent and current director of the cyber-security and technology program at Western Tech Ken knows a bit or two about cybersecurity and cyber-threats.

Ken is a senior electronics and computer professional with 30 years of professional experience.  He built that experience in the U.S. Coast Guard where he retired from after 20 years. He joined the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration where he was a technical lead for 9 years.

As a technician, technical manager, instructor, and program director in the private sector Ken has led complex projects and was involved in the design, installation, and repair of complex electronic circuits, COTS and proprietary computer systems. Ken worked on remote control RF communications control and monitoring systems, as well as remote control audio/radio/video collection and surveillance systems. In more recent years he has been actively engaged with wired and wireless (Wi-Fi, WiMAX, cellular, microwave, and satellite-connected) computer networks and telecommunications systems.

John Norton

John Norton

John Norton is an engineer at one of our preferred security vendor, WatchGuard Technologies.  He is based out of Austin, Texas, and has over 20 years of experience in the technology space. John enjoys educating students and professionals about information security and personal privacy concerns.

John was involved in independent consulting and audit remediation as well as international financial data services, healthcare s and e-commerce. John found his passion for security after a decade of network and systems administration.

John is a member of ISSA, and IEEE and a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). This certification is an independent information security certification granted by the International Information System Security Certification Consortium, also known as (ISC)². The International Information System Security Certification Consortium, or (ISC)², is a well-respected organization that specializes in training and certifications for cybersecurity professionals.

Robert Madrid

Mr. Madrid jumped on the opportunity to pursue a career in more than just technology and has been actively working on his skills in the offensive cyber-security field over the years.

Robert is a specialist in his field and recently hacked into a car together with his students who he teaches at Western Technical College.

He is a proud certification holder of the Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP), Council for Certified Hacking Forensics Investigator (CHFI), and is the lead advisor for the WTSECOPS Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition Team.

In his spare time he performs penetration testing for companies all over the United States and investigates places where hackers can potentially breach the organization.

Robert is what the industry calls an ethical hacker and someone that has been an invaluable vendor for the Makios Technology team over the years.

Nils Desmet

Nils Desmet

Nils is actively involved in pushing the small business and medium enterprise community forward when it comes to cyber-security.  He has over 20 years of professional experience in the technology field and is a self-proclaimed “fanatic” and extremely passionate about cyber-security.

He is the founder of Makios Technology which he established in 2006. At Makios, he leads a team of technology, telecom, and cyber-security professionals. His passion is to find a solution for the small business and medium enterprise client that provides security at a level that far exceeds the acceptable standards.

Pushing harder for solutions that can do more is important, he says. Our clients are passionate about their company, which is often their life’s work. It is our job to make sure that they stay safe and protected against these cyber-pirates. Without being prepared, it is a matter of when not if.
