Incident Details

## Apple Releases Important iPhone and iPad Security Update Apple released iOS 26.7.1 and iPadOS 26.7.1 on September 28, 2026, to fix a serious security vulnerability affecting many supported iPhones and iPads. The issue could allow an attacker to use a specially crafted file to run unauthorized software on a device. Apple says there is evidence the vulnerability may already have been used in highly sophisticated attacks against specific individuals. This does not appear to be a widespread attack targeting everyday users, but the vulnerability is serious enough that users should update their devices promptly. ### What you should do If your iPhone or iPad is eligible for iOS or iPadOS 26.7.1, install the update as soon as practical. Go to: **Settings → General → Software Update** Keeping devices current is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect against known security vulnerabilities. ### The bottom line This is not a reason to panic, but it is a reason to update. Apple has fixed a vulnerability that could potentially allow an attacker to take control of a device through a malicious file, and there are indications it has already been used in targeted attacks. The fix is available. Install it. For more information, you can review Apple’s official security notice: Apple Security Advisory – CVE-2026-86950 https://support.apple.com/en-is/149226

Scope: All iOS devices (iPhone iPad) running iOS version older than 26.7.1 and MacOS devices running versions older than Sequoia 15.8.1 or Tahoe 26.7.1
