Celebrating Five Years with Rocky

For Rocky, technology has never been just about the tools. It's about understanding the people who use them, the problems they're trying to solve, and how the right solutions can fit into their everyday lives.

That perspective has shaped much of Rocky's experience at Makios Technology, where he celebrated his fifth work anniversary this year.

As a Helpdesk Technician on our Technical Services Team, Rocky has spent the past five years learning, collaborating, and discovering that even the most complicated technical challenges often come back to something surprisingly simple: people.

Finding the Right Place

Rocky's first impression of Makios came during his interview.

What stood out to Rocky during his interview was the leadership's clear understanding of the work and their commitment to both employees and clients.

But it was an early team-building activity that helped confirm he'd found the right environment.

Working on a building challenge with someone he'd known for barely a week, Rocky remembers how naturally they exchanged ideas and put them into action.

That ease of collaboration stood out to him, and it's something he hasn't forgotten.

Looking Beyond the Technology

One of Rocky's most memorable experiences happened early in his Makios career, when the team was involved in helping a client recover from a ransomware incident.

The work required collaboration with the client's internal IT team and direct interaction with users. What Rocky remembers most, however, was everyone's curiosity about what had happened, why it happened, and how similar incidents could be prevented.

The experience reinforced an important lesson for him.

Understanding technology isn't enough. You also have to understand the people using it.

That philosophy continues to influence how Rocky thinks about his work. He appreciates the opportunity to look beyond a standard approach and consider how technology can be adapted to meet a client's particular needs.

He also has an interesting way of describing technological growth.

Rather than comparing it to something that should grow as quickly and as large as possible, Rocky compares it to a bonsai tree.

His point? Thoughtful, carefully managed growth can be far more valuable than growth simply for its own sake.

Good People, Good Work, and a Little Humor

Ask Rocky what keeps his work interesting, and his answer is straightforward: the clients.

Technology may become familiar, but people have a way of keeping things unpredictable.

He also has plenty of appreciation for his colleagues, particularly Assistant Service Manager Alex Müller.

Rocky credits Alex with setting a standard for practical, accessible solutions and knowing how to get straight to the point without losing the personal touch.

And if you're wondering whether Rocky takes himself too seriously, consider his advice to someone interviewing at Makios:

"You have to be quick on your feet and sharp as a tack to make it here, but it's ok if you're not as quick and sharp as I am."

Outside of work, Rocky enjoys video games, cooking, collecting vinyl records, music, and spending time with comics and manga.

Five Years In, Looking Ahead

When asked what he's most looking forward to in the next five years, Rocky offered a simple answer:

"I'm looking forward to a future where we all make it."

It's a fitting thought from someone whose reflections consistently return to people, collaboration, and making technology work in ways that matter.

Rocky, thank you for five years of commitment, collaboration, and the perspective you bring to our team. We appreciate your humor, your thoughtful approach to technology, and the way you put people first.

Here's to the next five years. Happy anniversary, Rocky!
