Apple’s newest iOS update, iOS 16.5, was released on May 18th, offering interesting new features and several bug fixes to make the user experience even smoother. Security Improvements
One of the most notable aspects of the iOS 16.5 update is an improvement in security and data privacy. Several serious issues–including ones that could allow third parties to access sensitive information or perform commands on your iPhone or iPad without your permission or knowledge–have been fixed to provide peace of mind and protect user information.
Screen Recordings with Siri
Screen recording is a useful tool that allows you to capture what’s happening on your iPhone or iPad in video form. It’s a great way to share complex information like a multi-step process, a software problem, and other things that can’t easily be shown in a screenshot. Prior to the update, you would have to manually start a screen recording via the Control Center, but now it’s as easy as saying, “Hey Siri, record my screen”!
More Accurate Screen Time Reporting
If you
really
want to know how much screen time you’re clocking, rejoice! The update fixed a reporting bug that occasionally prevented Screen Time from syncing or resetting. If you don’t want to know how long you spend scrolling Instagram and TikTok during business hours (we all do it!), this may not be great news for you–but for those looking to stay informed, it prevents you from getting the wrong idea about your screen time habits.
Spotlight Bug Fix
Before iOS 16.5 was released, some iPhone users were experiencing an issue wherein Spotlight (an intelligent search feature available on Mac and iOS to quickly find apps, documents, emails, and more on your devices) would stop responding during use. This update fixes the bug so that freezes don’t occur–because the last thing you want when you’re frustrated and looking for an email or other important document is a major lag!
Selective Contact Sharing
The new iOS update allows you to select which details you want to share when sharing a contact, which can be especially helpful for business owners. No more accidentally sharing embarrassing nicknames or funny contact photos when you’re doing some serious networking.
Simply tap on the contact card you want to share within the Contacts app, press Share Contact, and then press Manage Shared Info. From there, you’ll be able to select which details you’d like to pass along, such as their first and last name, contact photo, phone numbers, and email addresses.
